A living instrument of
water, light & music

The Dancing Fountain is a live, self-choreographing audiovisual artwork in which water and light respond spontaneously to music, transforming sound into movement, colour and emotion.

Nothing is pre-programmed, and no AI is used. Every movement of water, every shift of colour and every lighting effect emerges directly from the music in the moment. No two performances are ever quite the same. But The Dancing Fountain is more than a spectacle. She creates a space where music, water, light and people come together — inviting audiences to pause, stay a while and experience music in a new way.

For some, she is a beautiful and unexpected encounter. For others, she becomes an immersive musical journey, revealing the emotion, drama and detail within each piece of music. However people choose to experience her, there is always something new to discover.

Since 2014, The Dancing Fountain has appeared at more than 100 events across the UK and abroad, from major festivals to intimate gatherings and spontaneous performances.

An ongoing, evolving artwork, The Dancing Fountain is never finished. Her ability to express the emotion, rhythm and instrumentation of music continues to grow — and every performance brings something new to life.

The Audience Space

Seating is an essential ingredient for the whole experience.

The Dancing Fountain rewards attention. People experience considerably more when they are comfortable enough to remain for several pieces of music rather than simply passing by. Seating therefore isn't merely an audience amenity; it helps create the conditions for the artwork to thrive.

The host should ideally provide seating for a minimum of 60 people. Benches, hay bales or similar informal seating work well.

Standing audiences are, of course, welcome, and the installation can comfortably accommodate 500+ audience members around the seated area.

Music and sound - Music comes first.

The Dancing Fountain is not simply a fountain accompanied by music; she is an audio-visual instrument through which music is explored. Our own shows are therefore carefully curated rather than presented as conventional continuous DJ sets. Music is selected for its emotional, rhythmic and instrumental qualities and for its ability to take the audience on journeys. Our rolling shows are exciting, and audiences get hooked because they never quite know what is coming next...

Our programming ranges widely, with particular strengths in deep electronica,

contemporary classical, ambient, cinematic and eclectic music from around the world. We use individual pieces, pauses, and mood changes intentionally. Silence and breathing spaces are also part of the overall experience.

We provide our own quality sound system for the performances. If The Dancing Fountain is responding to a host stage, live musicians, or another external music source, we will need to work out audio arrangements.

The Headphone Experience

For more intimate events, a particularly deep and powerful connection between the audience, the music and the fountain can be experienced with ‘silent disco’ headsets. An absolute must for special occasions.
